How do I move up my activation date?

Sometimes yes, and occasionally we'll do it without you asking. Here's when that happens.

Waiting is the worst part, so it's a fair thing to ask. And yes, dates can move earlier. Sometimes we'll do it before you've even asked us to.

Two ways a date comes forward on its own

Once your order is in, we go and check the details of your connection properly. Every so often that turns up good news.

The work turns out to be simpler than expected. The date you picked was based on what we knew at the time. If the job is more straightforward than that, there's no reason to make you wait for a date that assumed the harder version.

There's already fibre at your address. This one's the big win. Plenty of people tell us they've never had fibre when the previous occupants had it installed years ago. If we find a connection already there, your order changes from a build that could take months into a transfer that takes a fortnight. It's the best email we get to send.

Either way you'll hear from us with the new date. You don't need to be watching for it.

Asking us to look

Open your order and click Request new date, and tell us you're hoping for something sooner. The full how-to is in How do I reschedule my appointment?, and it works the same whether you're moving a date forwards or back.

Where the limits are

We book the work with the fibre company, so we're the ones doing the asking. But their technicians' calendars are still theirs, and a booked slot can't always be pulled forward just because we'd like it to be.

We'd rather tell you honestly that it's a maybe than have you rearrange your week around a date that hasn't actually moved. Until you hear from us, treat your existing date as the real one.

There's more room on a new build than a switch

A transfer is mostly notice rather than work, so there isn't much slack to find in it. A new build can run to months, and those are the ones where a second look occasionally turns up something better.

If you're stuck without internet in the meantime

Tell us that when you message. It changes how hard we push.

Wanting your new connection a bit sooner is one thing. Having no internet at all, working from home, or having kids trying to do schoolwork on a phone hotspot is another, and it's worth us knowing which situation you're in.
