If your address already has fibre, you're not getting a new connection. You're keeping the one you've got and moving it to us. That's a transfer, and it's the most straightforward way to join Plio.
What actually happens
Almost nothing, from where you're sitting.
The fibre coming into your house stays put. The fibre box on your wall stays put. Nobody visits, nothing gets drilled, and you don't need to be home. What changes is which provider the line belongs to, and that happens in the network rather than at your house.
On the day, your old provider's service on that line stops and ours starts. You plug your Plio router in, and you're away.
How long it takes
Ten working days, so roughly a fortnight from when you order.
That's notice rather than work. The change itself takes moments; the two weeks is the scheduling the fibre company needs to line it up properly.
The upside is that it's dependable. There's no scoping visit, no consent to chase, no trench to dig and no weather to lose a day to, so a transfer generally happens on exactly the date we give you. That's the real difference between this and a new install, which can run to months.
Connection dates are weekdays only.
We handle it, not you
This is the important part, and it's the opposite of what people expect.
You don't need to arrange anything with your old provider to make the switch happen. We organise the transfer, and their service on the line ends as part of it.
⚠️ Please don't cancel with them first. We know it feels like the responsible thing to do, but if they close the account before the transfer runs, there's no live connection left to move. The transfer fails, and we have to start again as a fresh connection, which takes considerably longer.
There's still one thing you should do at your end, and it's covered in When do I have to cancel my old internet provider? Worth two minutes before your transfer date.
Will I lose internet on the day?
There may be a short break while the connection changes hands, but it's usually minutes rather than hours, and plenty of people don't notice it at all.
If you work from home, it's worth not scheduling your most important call of the year for that morning. Beyond that, you don't need to make special arrangements.
What if my address doesn't have fibre yet?
Then none of the above applies to you. Yours is a fresh install, which is a much bigger job and takes a good deal longer. Have a read of How does the installation work? instead.
Not sure which one you're on? Message us and we'll tell you.
