Will a technician come to install my equipment?

Usually not. If someone does need to visit, we email you the reason before a date is even set.

For most people, no. Nobody comes to your house, and you set your router up yourself in about two minutes.

Whether you need a technician comes down to one thing: whether there's already fibre at your address.

Already have fibre? No visit

If your place is already connected, and especially if you've had fibre from another provider, everything happens in the network. There's nothing to install, because it's already on your wall.

You don't need to be home, take a day off, or wait around for a four hour window. Your router arrives in the post, you plug it into the fibre box on the day, and that's the whole job.

When someone does need to visit

Three situations, and we'll know about all of them before you do.

There's no fibre box at your place. The most common reason. If fibre has never been connected here, someone has to run it in from the street and fit the box.

The fibre reaches your property but not your house. Sometimes the cable has been brought as far as the boundary and stops there. The outside work is done, the inside work isn't.

The box needs moving. If your fibre box is somewhere unhelpful, in a garage at the far end of the section, say, it can be relocated. That's always your choice, never something we'd arrange without asking.

You'll know before there's even a date

This is the bit we've deliberately built to work in your favour.

As soon as we know a visit is needed, we email you to say so and to tell you why, before any date has been set. So you're never in a position where a date lands with an appointment attached that you weren't expecting.

Then when we've booked the work, we email you the date. If it doesn't suit, you can ask us to change it right from there.

Finding out you're supposed to be home while you're sitting at work is a rubbish way to start with a new provider, and we'd rather not do that to anyone.

What happens on the day

Someone needs to be home, and it can take up to four hours. There's a proper walkthrough of what the technician does, what to talk to them about, and where to put things in How does the installation work?

Will they set up my router?

No, and you won't need them to.

The technician's job is the fibre and the fibre box. Your Plio router is separate, it comes by post, and it arrives already set up for your connection. Plug it in, plug in the power, done.

If your router hasn't turned up by the day of the appointment, that's fine and it doesn't hold anything up. See What if my equipment doesn't arrive in time for my appointment?

Not sure which one you are?

Message us with your address and we'll tell you straight away whether anyone needs to visit. It's a quick thing for us to look up, and worth knowing before you plan your week around it.
