Three ways to pay, and they're all card-based:
đł Credit or debit card: Visa and Mastercard
đ Apple Pay
đ¤ Google Pay
Keeping it to these is a deliberate choice. Card and wallet payments clear straight away, which means if something ever goes wrong with a payment we can see it and sort it out with you there and then rather than waiting days to find out, by which point it's a bigger problem.
Paying by card
Visa and Mastercard, credit or debit. Two things worth knowing so nothing catches you out:
Debit cards from most NZ banks are fine. We can't promise every single bank's card will play nicely, but the vast majority do.
Prepaid and gift cards won't work, unfortunately. They can't hold a recurring payment. Not our rule, but it's the one we're stuck with.
Paying with Apple Pay or Google Pay
If you've got a card in Apple Wallet or Google Pay, you can use it at checkout and for your monthly payment after that.
This is the one we'd gently steer you towards, and here's the reason. A card in a wallet is stored as a network token rather than a card number, which means when your bank reissues your card, whether that's a new expiry date or a replacement after a fraud alert, it just keeps working.
No failed payment. No slightly alarming email from us. Nothing for you to remember to update on an evening when you've got better things to do. It's a small thing that quietly saves people a lot of hassle.
The wallet button shows up at checkout if your device supports it. If you don't see it, your browser or phone doesn't have a wallet set up. Nothing's gone wrong.
What about direct debit or bank transfer?
Not yet, and we're sorry if that's your preference. We know plenty of people would rather pay that way.
We've started with cards and wallets because we'd rather do those properly than ship a half-finished bank debit and have payments fail in ways that land on you.
NZ direct debit is genuinely on our list. If it's how you'd prefer to pay, message us and tell us. We do count these, and it makes a real difference to where it sits in the queue.
When am I charged?
Not at checkout. We save your card at signup rather than billing you, and your first payment comes out when your connection goes live. Your billing month starts from that day, and after that it's the same day each month, so it lands somewhere predictable.
You may see a small card check of a few cents when you order, which clears by itself within a few days. It isn't payment for your service.
Changing how you pay
Any time you like, in your Plio account under Billing. Add a new card or wallet, make it the default, remove the old one. Changes take effect from your next payment. If anything looks confusing in there, message us and we'll walk through it with you.
